I came across the Durham River Park and pulled in. I couldn't believe I was the only person in this beautiful park alongside the Androscoggin River on such a sunny day at 6pm.
This is why I decided to create Campfire Magazine.
Having worked in municipal Recreation Departments for the last 10 years I have seen a dramatic decline in the number of people participating in simple, unstructured, outdoor, play time. I mean, I just hardly see it anymore. When I was in elementary school, if it was June-August I was outdoors. Sun up to sun down. Running barefoot, playing baseball, making forts in the woods; I mean you name it - we did it. and NO, no one had to force us to do it, no one had to make us power down our iphones, it was just how we were. and while I don't mean to rant or get to political about our ever evolving culture, I am upset that people are missing out on these beautiful places.
But hey, I guess that just leaves them for people like me to enjoy! ;)
